How We Work at Homelands
Nursing Home in West Sussex:

Each team member goes through a comprehensive screening and supervision process, which includes:

1.
Resident pre-assessment and care planning

When appropriate, and if medically possible, we will complete a resident preassessment to determine the main priorities of the care plan. In cases where it is not medically possible for the resident to communicate with us in person, we will gladly speak to a relative or other trusted representative, to establish the best way forward.

2.
Preparing for a new resident at Homelands

Before your arrival, the most senior staff member on duty will oversee the following preparations:

Formality
Once the care plan is finalised, all pre-admission requirements must be met accordingly.

Familiarity
Private rooms are thoughtfully decorated with your personal belongings and all staff are briefed about your arrival beforehand. We do everything to ensure residents receive a warm welcome and sense of familiarity right from the get-go.

Cleanliness
At Homelands, cleanliness is crucial. All private rooms are immaculate, properly ventilated, and freshly set with clean bed linen and towels.

Comfort
No resident at Homelands should ever feel uncomfortable due to the room temperature. Care assistants ensure rooms are set for optimal warmth, adjusting where necessary to suit residents’ individual preferences.

Safety
We prioritise safety by testing all electrical systems, including the call button, lighting, power outlets and television. Mobility aids and other assistive devices, where required, will be positioned strategically in your room according to the care plan.

3.
Arriving at Homelands on your first day

Welcome home!

Following a warm and personal welcome into your new home, the most senior staff member on duty will escort you to your room with any friends or family members you have brought along. We are all relaxed here at Homelands and go at a pace you feel comfortable with.

While we go off to fetch the refreshments, you’ll have plenty of time to get settled in and familiarise yourself with your new room. If suitable, we’ll request a moment to go over a few important details, such as the storage of valuables, insurance, meal arrangements and our complaints procedure. If you're feeling up to it, we would also be happy to give you a tour, so you can see where you are and meet a few of the residents.

If not, no pressure. We'll go at a time that suits you.

4.
Ongoing communication and care

At Homelands, each resident is assigned a registered nurse and care assistant responsible for their care and well-being. The care we provide follows a personalised care plan developed during the preassessment, which can be adjusted at any time to reflect changes in the resident’s condition.

We maintain ongoing communication with family members, offering continuous emotional support and care for as long as needed.

5.
Quality assurance and complaints

Every Homelands resident is made aware of our feedback and complaints procedures and what they entail. In our care, residents and family members are welcomed at quarterly meetings and urged to offer ideas and suggestions for improvement.

We tailor our service to suit your needs, but if you’re dissatisfied, the first person to speak to is the Care Manager. If unavailable, your assigned nurse will be there to assist you. The manager will acknowledge your concerns within 72 hours, and we will document the issue, detailing the steps we are taking to address it.

If our esponse does not fully resolve your concerns, we encourage you to reach out to our Inspectorate for further assistance.
